ISLAMABAD: In a week where Pakistan Air Force has pounded targets in the tribal areas along its western border, the Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt on Thursday said that the military’s air advantage was maintaining combat readiness in pursuit of its assigned mission.

“The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is committed to maintaining combat readiness in pursuit of the assigned mission while ensuring judicious use of resources and preservation of assets.”
Addressing the PAF Annual Safety Review for the year 2013 at Air Headquarters, Islamabad on Thursday, the Air Chief said that there was complete synergy among the supervisors at Air Headquarters and the field commanders.
“The entire air force is training to conduct day and night operations,” he said.
The review was presided over by the Air Chief Marshal and was attended by principal staff officers, regional commanders and supervisors from the field.
The Annual Safety Review is a routine activity during which operational activities are reviewed.
The forum is also used to carry out an in depth study of the standards of flight and ground safety in PAF.
A PAF fighter aircraft crashed in Mandi Bahauddin last month killing both the pilot and the co-pilot, while in October last year a PAF helicopter crashed in Gujranwala injuring both the pilot and co-pilot.

Shahid Orkazai Accused Nawaz Shareef for Funding to TTP

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), the majority party in the National Assembly, was in contact with the Taliban even before the May 2013 general elections and its leader Mian Nawaz Sharif had secretly channelled money to Hakimullah Mehsud in December 2012, alleged Shahid Orakzai in an application.

He filed constitutional petition (CP) 182/2014 in the Supreme Court on Saturday and made the federation as respondent. The petition said: "After receiving the payment, Taliban chief had proposed Nawaz as a guarantor for the truce with the Armed Forces of Pakistan he had proposed under the previous government."
Shahid Orakzai said he would produce the evidence to show how an officer of Pakistan Air Force was murdered only to cover up the financial transactions between al-Qaeda boss Osama bin Ladin and Mian Nawaz Sharif. He further stated that he would elaborate and interrelate the facts that the court discovers the sinister design behind the shameful peace talks.
The petitioner also challenged the peace committee taking the plea in his constitutional petition that no one among three members of government negotiations team including Rustam Shah, Maj (Retd) Muhammad Aamir and Rahim Ullah Yusufzai is member of the National Assembly and, as per assembly rules and procedure, no non-elected person can become member of any committee of the NA.
Irfan Siddiqui, advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on national security, has not been made respondent in the petition as he is entitled to take part in the NA proceedings as per the constitution. However, he is not authorised to cast vote.
Orakzai said that the PM has entrusted a vital matter of national security to the non-elected persons who have not been appointed under any federal law. It also said that the government team has failed to provide security to the citizens of Pakistan under Article 9.
He said the three members of the committee as well as the Armed Forces of Pakistan are completely unaware of the actual base of the liaison between Nawaz and Taliban.
Orakzai claimed that the respondent federation, before constituting the unlawful Committee on 29-01-2014, did give a special access to the so-called Taliban to count and confirm the presence of their imprisoned members in the Rawalpindi Central Jail, saying the evidence would be provided.
The unlawful access, in clear breach of national security, was given by the incumbent interior minister who was then making secret contacts with the Taliban. He said that he would produce the evidence to show how the Punjab government financed a mega jailbreak in April 2012.
He prayed that in views of the above facts, this court may instruct the federation not to take any step under Article 45 regarding any prisoner, or person in judicial custody, who is convicted or accused of any act punishable by anti-terrorist courts until the disposal this CMA.
The release of any prisoner by the President of Pakistan would be against the letter and spirit of Article 45. This court may take note that Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif were released by the President in December 2000 under the same Article 45.

Saudi Arabia 'seeking Pakistani arms for Syrian rebels'

February 24, 2014

DUBAI: Saudi Arabia is in talks with Pakistan to provide anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets to Syrian rebels to try to tip the balance in the war to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, a Saudi source said Sunday.

The United States has long opposed arming the rebels with such weapons, fearing they might end up in the hands of extremists, but Syrian opposition figures say the failure of Geneva peace talks seems to have led Washington to soften its opposition.

Pakistan makes its own version of Chinese shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles, known as Anza, and anti-tank rockets -- both of which Riyadh is trying to get for the rebels, said the source, who is close to Saudi decision-makers, requesting anonymity.

The source pointed to a visit to Riyadh earlier this month by Pakistan's army chief of staff, General Raheel Sharif, who met Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz.

Prince Salman himself last week led a large delegation to Pakistan, shortly after Saudi's chief diplomat Prince Saud al-Faisal visited the kingdom's key ally.

Jordan will be providing facilities to store the weapons before they are delivered to rebels within Syria, the same source said.

AFP could not obtain confirmation from officials in Saudi, Pakistan or Jordan.

The head of the Syrian opposition, Ahmad Jarba, promised during a flying visit to northern Syria last week that "powerful arms will be arriving soon."

"The United States could allow their allies provide the rebels with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons following the failure of Geneva talks and the renewed tension with Russia," said the head of the Gulf Research Centre, Abdel Aziz al-Sager.

Providing those weapons to the rebels "relieves pressure on the US in the short-term," said Simon Henderson, director of the Gulf and Energy Policy Programme at the Washington Institue for Near East Policy.

"But the long-term political worry is that Manpads (Man-portable air-defence systems) will leak and be used to bring down a civilian airliner somewhere in the world."

Rebels have long said that anti-aircraft rockets would help them defend themselves against Syrian warplanes, which regularly bomb rebel-held areas with barrels loaded with TNT and other ordinance.

The nearly-three-year conflict in Syria has torn the country apart, killing more than 140,000 people, including some 50,000 civilians, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Rising Saudi influence

Saudi Arabia has a strong influence on Syria's southern front, where it coordinates with Jordan, and has helped unite the rebel fighters in the area, according to Syrian opposition sources.

On the other hand, Qatar and Turkey are responsible for coordinating with the rebels on the northern front, said an official of the Syrian opposition, requesting anonymity.

Saudi Arabia has come to eclipse Qatar as the main supporter of the Syrian rebels, a development illustrated by the election last July of Ahmad Jarba, who has strong Saudi links, to lead the Syrian National Coalition, the main umbrella opposition group.

The trend appeared to continue with the dismissal last week of General Selim Idriss, the top commander of the Western-backed Free Syrian Army, who was considered close to Qatar, according to an opposition source.

The main criticism of Idriss was "bad distribution of weapons" and "errors in battle," said another opposition source.

Idriss, who has refused his dismissal, has been replaced by Brigadier General Abdel Ilah al-Bashir, the leader of the rebel military council for the region of Quneitra in southern Syria.

On its internal front, Saudi Arabia has sidelined intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan, who had been leading Riyadh's efforts concerning Syria, according to a Western diplomat.

Diplomats have said that the file has been passed to the interior minister, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, known for his successful crackdown on Al-Qaeda following a wave of deadly attacks in the kingdom between 2003 and 2006.

Bandar's management had triggered American criticism, diplomats said.

The Saudi royal himself has reproached Washington for its decision not to intervene militarily in Syria, and for preventing its allies from providing rebels with much-needed weapons, diplomats added. (AFP)

Saudi Arabia will demolish the birthplace of Islam's Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Saudi Arabia will go ahead with plans to demolish the birthplace of Islam’s holy prophet as part of a redevelopment project.
Bulldozers are set to knock down a building in the holy city of Mecca, where Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) is believed to have been born.
The demolition of the House of Mawlid is part of a multi-billion-dollar project to build a modern complex near the Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque).
The Masjid al-Haram is the holiest Islamic site and houses Kaaba, the point which all Muslims face when praying.
Scholars say the prophet’s birthplace is the last remaining historical site in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi royal family has backed redevelopment at the cost of razing ancient structures.
The destruction is expected to provoke anger from Muslim pilgrims who travel to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.
In April 2013, Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah al-Sheikh defended the demolition of early Islamic heritage sites in Mecca.
The highest Saudi religious authority even went much further and described the demolitions as necessary.

Samiul Haq appeals for immediate ceasefire

NOWSHERA/PESHAWAR: Chief of Taliban negotiation committee Maulana Samiul Haq has appealed to both the government and Taliban to announce ceasefire immediately.

“It is the duty of the government not to allow bombardment on innocent citizens, as this would further deteriorate the situation,” Maulana Sami said while addressing a prize distribution ceremony at Darul Uloom Haqqania here on Friday.
He said that announcing ceasefire and holding to it was the duty of both the parties. He called upon the ulema to present a proper agenda in front of the nation for liberation of the country from foreign clutches. The gathering was also addressed by Maulana Dr Sher Ali Shah and Maulana Anwarul Haq.
Maulana Sami said that the basic cause of tussle between the Taliban and government was the support of Pakistan to foreign powers. He said that some foreign powers and liberal elements and politicians of Pakistan were showing their anti-Islam feelings, which he termed a “fashion of the day”.
He said that anti-Islam forces were targeting the religious institutions and their curriculums. He said that the religious institutions were preaching Islam and had no link with terrorism.
He said that terrorist activities in the country could be effectively ended if the government reviewed its foreign policy and announced termination of its alliance with foreign powers.
He said that if the government could not talk with the US on the basis of equality the latter would be encouraged to target any part of the country.
In Peshawar, member of Taliban negotiation committee Prof Mohammad Ibrahim condemned the gunship helicopters’ shelling in Hangu district.
In a statement issued on Saturday, he said that there were reports about the killing of women and children in the shelling. He said that US warplanes had bombed Salala checkpost in Mohmand Agency for two hours, but the Pakistan Army did not take action at that time.
He said that his party, Jamaat-i-Islami, strongly condemned the shelling in Hangu. He claimed that the government and army had decided in principle to launch operation in tribal area. Prof Ibrahim said that if the army started operation, thousands of families would be rendered homeless and there would be surge in terrorism across the country.
He said that interlocutors were making efforts to bring the two sides to the negotiation table, but the government was not interested in talks. He castigated statement by the federal interior minister in which he said that army had been authorised to take action. “The army does not need the government’s permission to start operation,” he said.
Prof Ibrahim said that the government and its negotiation committee were powerless to meet with Taliban committee. He said that he had contacted Taliban leader Azam Tariq who offered that the TTP was ready for talks with the government in the light of Quran and Sunnah.

Sindh govt to replicate 'Sehat ka Insaf' in Karachi

February 23, 2014

KARACHI: Sindh government, inspired by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s ‘Sehat Ka Insaf’ immunisation campaign in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, has decided to replicate the anti-polio campaign in Karachi.

Due to attacks on polio teams in the city, the provincial government has decided to launch a one-day anti-polio campaign in 24 union councils (UCs) which are being considered ‘high risk’ area, The Express Tribune learnt.

The campaign in Karachi is a replica of the ‘Sehat ka Insaf’ which proved gainful for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government. Despite the fact that the campaign launched by the PTI was a success model, the provincial government avoids to appreciate the drive. PTI’s success was due to the support it enjoys across Peshawar city.

In contrast, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led provincial government only enjoys small pockets of support in Karachi. Though the campaign was scheduled to started from February 24 but it has been brought forward by a day to start on February 23 (Sunday) due to availability of security personnel. Moreover, it is hoped children will easily be approachable. The polio campaign has been divided into four categories – C-1, C-2, C-3 and C-4. The C-1 plan will be launched in 24 UCs only for one single day.

Children residing in these UCs will be administered polio drops again on March 2 at the start of National Immunisation Day (NID) drive. According to the plan, during the C-2 drive 25 more UCs will be targeted, including low risk areas such as Gadap, Baldia, Orangi, SITE, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Landhi, Korangi and Bin Qasim town localities.

The total target for C-1 is 494,774 children where 3,090 polio teams will participate. The drive is aiming to immunise 2.215 million children, and 5,740 teams are expected to partake in the drive. Sources in the health department said that the plan has been finalised and law enforcement agencies had extended complete support to polio workers.

Despite repeated attempts, the top health officials could not be reached for the comments. While a pillion riding ban is in effect in the city, sources added that there will be a ban on motorcycle riding altogether in high risk areas. Sindh Health Secretary Iqbal Durrani said the police and the Rangers would be deployed in all areas where polio volunteers will work.
“The movement of motorcyclists would be restricted,” Durrani added. He said all arrangements for the campaign have been taken.

Security forces kill nine militants in Hangu - Pakistan

February 22 - 2014

HANGU: Nine militants were killed when Pakistan armed forces’ gunship helicopters pounded militants’ hideouts in Hangu, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to the sources, shelling by security forces’ gunship helicopters destroyed militants’ compounds and killed nine militants including three key terrorists in various areas of Tehsil Tal.

Four gunship helicopters took part in the operation, sources added. It may be mentioned that Pakistani jets bombed militants’ hideouts in a north-western tribal district early Thursday, killing at least 35 militants, including local and foreign terrorists.

The aircraft bombarded suspected militant hideouts in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan as part of surgical strikes which they said should not be taken as military operation. Sources told that the first strike killed commander Abdul Sattar when his compound was pounded by the jets followed by the series of strikes on Uzbek, Turkmen, Tajik and Taliban hideouts.

The decision to conduct air strikes in North Waziristan was taken by the military leadership after the approval of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The decision over the attacks on militant hideouts in North Waziristan was made after three consecutive days of meetings between the government and military leadership.

However, the government is still in favour to continue the dialogue process and the committee was directed to make contact with Taliban after they stop their terror activities. At least 172 people including personnel of police and army were martyred in 19 days during dialogues with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Army chief says military fully capable to counter threats

February 21 - 2014

ISLAMABAD: Brushing aside the impression about capability of Pakistan’s armed forces in countering terrorism and militancy, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif Friday said the military was fully capable to protect integrity and sovereignty of the country.

“Let there be no doubt that Pakistan’s armed forces are battle hardened and fully capable to counter any internal or external threat posed to the integrity and sovereignty of our beloved country,” he said while interacting with the troops at FC headquarters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier this month, the upper house of Parliament witnessed a heated debate on a recent TV interview of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in which he had allegedly questioned the capability of the armed forces to take on the militants.

The cricketer-turned-politician in an interview had stated that during a meeting the prime minister had quoted former army chief Gen (retd) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani as saying that there was a 40 per cent chance of success of a military operation against militants in the country’s tribal areas.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) appreciated the spirit and high morale of the troops and said that the entire nation acknowledged sacrifices rendered by security forces in the war on terror as part of national effort to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from Pakistan.

Gen Sahrif assured them that these sacrifices will not go in vain. Recounting successes of the security forces in various operations against terrorists, he lauded the efforts and determination of all troops and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) who cleared the militancy-hit areas, with the help of local population and support of the entire nation.

“We are fully prepared to confront any challenge in future as well,” the COAS reaffirmed. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan yesterday said that carrying on with peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban amid terrorist attacks throughout the country would be injustice to the victims of such attacks.

Speaking at a press conference, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the military leadership do not intend to carry on with dialogue amid terrorist attacks. Earlier on his arrival in Peshawar, the army chief was received by Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani and Inspector General Frontier Corps KP Major General Ghayur Mahmood.

General Raheel Sharif was also briefed by the IG FC regarding ongoing operations in various parts of FATA and the province.

Facebook to buy WhatsApp for $19 billion

February 21 - 2014

Facebook to buy WhatsApp for $19 billion.

Facebook Inc will buy fast-growing mobile-messaging start up WhatsApp for $19 billion in cash and stock, as the world's largest social network looks for ways to boost its popularity, especially among a younger crowd.

The acquisition of the hot messaging service with more than 450 million users around the world stunned many Silicon Valley observers with its lofty price tag. But it underscores Facebook's determination to win the market for messaging, an indispensable utility in a mobile era.

Combining text messaging and social networking, messaging apps provide a quick way for smartphone users to trade everything from brief texts to flirtatious pictures to YouTube clips — bypassing the need to pay wireless carriers for messaging services.

And it helps Facebook tap teens who will eschew the mainstream social networks and prefer WhatsApp and rivals such as Line and WeChat, which have exploded in size as mobile messaging takes off. "People are calling them 'Facebook Nevers,'" said Jeremy Liew, a partner at Lightspeed and an early investor in Snapchat.

WhatsApp is adding about a million users per day, Facebook co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said on his page on Wednesday. "WhatsApp will complement our existing chat and messaging services to provide new tools for our community," he wrote on his Facebook page. "Since WhatsApp and (Facebook) Messenger serve such different and important users, we will continue investing in both." Smartphone-based messaging apps are now sweeping across North America, Asia and Europe. "Communication is the one thing that you have to use daily, and it has a strong network effect," said Jonathan Teo, an early investor in Snapchat, another red-hot messaging company that flirted year ago with a multibillion dollar acquisition offer from Facebook. "Facebook is more about content and has not yet fully figured out communication." Even so, he balked at the price tag. As part of the deal, WhatsApp co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Jan Koum will join Facebook's board, and the social network will grant an additional $3 billion worth of restricted stock units to WhatsApp's founders, including Koum. That is on top of the $16 billion in cash and stock that Facebook will pay. "Goodness gracious, it's a good deal for WhatsApp," Teo said.

TERMS:

Shares in Facebook slid 5 percent to $64.70 after hours, from a close of $68.06 on the Nasdaq.

Facebook said on Wednesday it will pay $4 billion in cash and about $12 billion in stock in its single largest acquisition, dwarfing the $1 billion it paid for photo-sharing app Instagram.

The price paid for Instagram, which with just 30 million users was already considered overvalued by many observers at the time.

Facebook promised to keep the WhatsApp brand and service, and pledged a $1 billion cash break-up fee if the deal falls through. Facebook was advised by Allen & Co, while WhatsApp has enlisted Morgan Stanley for the deal.

Maulana Abdul Aziz interview after getting caught in Burqa

Khawarijs insulting and misleading Muslims and Islam

They just using Islam for their own benefits.

We are pointing out some ahadith from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim regarding the Khawarij, as they were a part of authentic Islamic history. How often is it that we see sects accusing each other of being Khawarij, so we are shedding some light upon this matter.
We have summed up all their characteristics in the end; the readers can go directly to them while we would be narrating the entire hadiths that state from where all this started.
Jabir b. Abdullah reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) at Ja'rana on his way back from Hunain, and there was in the clothes of Bilal some silver. The Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) took a handful out of that and bestowed it upon the people. He (the person who had met the Prophet at Ja'rana) said to him: Muhammad, do justice. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Woe be upon thee, who would do justice if I do not do justice, and you would be very unfortunate and a loser if I do not do justice. Upon this Umar b. Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) said: Permit me to kill this hypocrite. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: May there be protection of Allah! People would say that I kill my companions. This man and his companions would recite the Qur'an but it would not go beyond their throat, and they swerve from it just as the arrow goes through the prey.
[Sahih Muslim: Book 005, Number 2316]

In one narration the words are:

A person among the people then sought permission (from the Holy Prophet) for his murder. According to some, it was Khalid b. Walid who sought the permission. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam), said: From this very person's posterity there would arise people who would recite the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throat; they would kill the followers of Islam and would spare the idol-worshippers. They would glance through the teachings of Islam so hurriedly just as the arrow passes through the pray. If I were to ever find them I would kill them like 'Ad.
[Sahih Muslim: Book 005, Number 2318]

Another narration explains the event:

That man then returned. Khalid b. Walid then said: Messenger of Allah, should I not strike his neck? Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: Perhaps he may be observing the prayer. Khalid said: How many observers of prayer are there who profess with their tongue what is not in their heart? Upon this the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) said: I have not been commanded to pierce through the hearts of people, nor to split their bellies (insides). He again looked at him and he was going back.
Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: There would arise a people from the progeny of this (man) who would recite the Qur'an glibly, but it would not go beyond their throats; they would (hurriedly) pass through (the teachings of their) Deen just as the arrow passes through the prey. I conceive that he (the Holy Prophet) also said this: If I find them I would certainly kill them as were killed the (people of) Thamud.
[Sahih Muslim: Book 005, Number 2319]

This narration tells us that it was both of the companions asked the permission.

This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters and (the narrator) made a mention of elevated forehead, but he made no mention of tucked-up loin cloth and made this addition:" There stood up 'Umar b. Khattab (Allah be pleased with him), and said: Should I not strike his neck? Upon this he said: No. Then he turned away, and Khalid the Sword of Allah stood up against him, and said: Prophet of Allah. Shall I not strike off his neck? He said, No, and then said: A people would rise from his progeny who would recite the Book of Allah glibly and fluently. 'Umar said: I think he (the Holy Prophet) also said this: If I find them I would certainly kill them like Thamud."
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2320]

Other narrations regarding the Khawarij state that the Prophet SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam said: There would arise in this nation a people and you would hold insignificant your prayers as compared with their prayers. And they would recite the Qur'an which would not go beyond their throats and would swerve through the Deen (as blank) just as an (swift) arrow passes through the prey. The archer looks at his arrow, at its iron head and glances at its end (which he held) in the tip of his fingers to see whether it had any stain of blood.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2322]

The Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) said: Leave him, for he has friends that everyone among you would consider his prayer insignificant as compared with their prayer, and his fast as compared with their fasts. They would recite the Qur'an but it would not go beyond their collarbones. They would pass through (the teachings of Islam so hurriedly) just as the arrow passes through the prey. He would look at its Iron head, but would not find anything ticking) there. He would then see at the lowest end, but would not find anything sticking there. He would then see at its grip but would not find anything sticking to it. He would then see at its feathers and he would find nothing sticking to them (as the arrow would pass so quickly that nothing would stick to it) neither excrement nor blood. They would be recognized by the presence of a black man among them whose upper arms would be like a woman's breast, or like a piece of meat as it quivers, and they would com! e forth at the time when there is dissension among the people. Abu Sa'id said: I testify to the fact that I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam), and I testify to the fact that 'Ali b. Abu Talib fought against them and I was with him. He gave orders about that man who was sought for, and when he was brought in, and when I looked at him, he was exactly as the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) had described him.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2323]

Narrated Yusair bin 'Amr:
I asked Sahl bin Hunaif, "Did you hear the Prophet saying anything about Al-Khawarij?" He said, "I heard him saying while pointing his hand towards Iraq. "There will appear in it (i.e. Iraq) some people who will recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats, and they will go out from (leave) Islam as an arrow darts through the game's body.'
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 84, Number 68]

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said that the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) made a mention of a sect that would be among his Ummah which would emerge out of the dissension of the people. Their distinctive mark would be shaven heads. They would be the worst creatures or the worst of the creatures. The group who would be nearer to the truth out of the two would kill them. The Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) gave an example (to give their description) or he said: A man throws an arrow at the prey (or he said at the target), and sees at its iron head, but finds no sign (of blood there), or he sees at the lowest end, but would not see or find any sign (of blood there). He would then see into the grip but would not find (anything) sticking to it. Abu Sa'id then said: People of Iraq. It is you who have killed them.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2324]

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) said: A group would secede itself (from the Ummah) when there would be dissension among the Muslims. Out of the two groups who would be nearer the truth would kill them.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2325]

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) as saying: There would be two groups in my Ummah, and there would emerge another group (seceding itself from both of them), and the party nearer to the truth among the two would kill them (the group of the Khawarij).
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2326]

'Ali said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) as saying: There would arise at the end of the age a people who would be young in age and immature in thought, but they would talk (in such a manner) as if their words are the best among the creatures. They would recite the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throats, and they would pass through the Deen as an arrow goes through the prey. So when you meet them, kill them, for in their killing you would get a reward with Allah on the Day of Judgment.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2328]

Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said: 0 people, I heard the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) say: There would arise from my Ummah a people who would recite the Qur'an, and your recital would seem insignificant as compared with their recital, your prayer as compared with their prayer, arid your fast, as compared with their fast. They would recite the Qur'an thinking that it supports them, whereas it is evidence against them. Their prayer does not get beyond their collarbone; they would swerve through Islam just as the arrow passes through the prey. If the squadron which is to encounter them were to know (what great boon) has been assured to them by their Messenger (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) they would completely rely upon this deed (alone and cease to do other good deeds), and their (that of the Khawarij) distinctive mark is that there would be (among them) a person whose wrist would be without the arm, and the end of his wrist would be fleshy like the! nipple of the breast on which there would be white hair. You would be marching towards Muawiya and the people of Syria and you would leave them behind among your children and your property (to do harm). By Allah, I believe that these are the people (against whom you have been commanded to fight and get reward) for they have shed forbidden blood, and raided the animals of the people. So go forth in the name of Allah (to fight against them). Salama b. Kuhail mentioned that Zaid b. Wahb made me alight at every stage, till we crossed a bridge. 'Abdullah b. Wahb al-Rasibi was at the head of the Khawarij when we encountered them. He ('Abdullah) said to his army: Throw the spears and draw out your swords from their sheaths, for I fear that they would attack you as they attacked you on the day of Harura. They went back and threw their spears and drew out their swords, and people fought against them with spears and they were killed one after another. Only two persons were killed among the ! people (among the army led by Hadrat 'Ali) on that day. 'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said: Find out from among them (the dead bodies of the Khawarij) (the maimed). They searched but did not find him. 'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) then himself stood up and (walked) till he came to the people who had been killed one after another. He ('Ali) said: Search them to the last, and then ('Ali's companions) found him (the dead body of the maimed) near the earth. He (Hadrat 'Ali) then pronounced Allah-O-Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) and then said, Allah told the Truth and His Messenger (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) conveyed it. Then there stood before him 'Abida Salmani who said: Commander of the Believers, by Allah, besides whom there is no god but He, (tell me) whether you heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam). He said: Yes, by Allah, besides whom there is no god but He. He asked him to take an oath thrice and he took the oath.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2333]

'Ubaidullah b. Abu Rafi', the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam), said: When Haruriya (The Khawarij) set out and as he was with 'Ali b. Abu Talib (Allah be pleased with him) they said," There is no command but that of Allah."
Upon this 'Ali said: The statement is true but it is intentionally applied (to support) a wrong (cause). The Messenger of Allah (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam described their characteristics and I found these characteristics in them. They state the truth with their tongue, but it does not go beyond this part of their bodies (and the narrator pointed towards his throat). The most hateful among the creation of Allah is one black man among them (Khawarij). One of his hand is like the teat of a goat or the nipple of the breast. When 'Ali b. Abu Talib (Allah be pleased with him) killed them, he said: Search (for his dead body). They searched for him, but they did not find it (his dead body). Upon this he said: Go (and search for him). By Allah, neither I have spoken a lie nor has the lie been spoken to me. 'Ali said this twice and thrice. They then found him (the dead body) in a rain. They brought (his dead) body till they placed it before him (Ali). 'Ubaidullah said: And, I wa! s present at (that place) when this happened and when 'Ali said about them. A person narrated to me from Ibn Hanain that he said: I saw that black man.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2334]

Sahl b. Hunaif reported Allah's Messenger (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) as saying: There would arise from the east a people with shaven heads.
[Sahih Muslim:
Book 005, Number 2338]

Lets sum up all the hadiths:

They would recite the Quran but it won't go down their throats.
They will exit the Deen like an arrow does from the prey.
Their Salat and fasting would seem better then others.
They would talk (in such a manner) as if their words are the best among the creatures.
They would have shaven heads.
They will appear from the east.
Amongst the Khawarij there would be a black man whose shoulder will be like that of a woman's breast.
The Khawarij raised this slogan, There is no command but that of Allah, which was correct but used for a wrong cause.
Ali (may Allah be pleased be with them) fought the Khawarij and killed them.
Killing the Khawarij would be rewarded on the day of judgment.
Abdullah b. Wahb al-Rasibi was at the head of the Khawarij when they fought the Muslimeen.
The Khawarij would emerge when the there is dissension amongst the Muslimeen.
What admonition do we receive from all of this?
That we shouldn't try to be more pious then our Prophet SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam, we should have blind faith on him, that no matter how pious someone might seem we should only take proof from Quran and Sunnah, and that mere raising of correct slogans doesn't mean someone is on the right path.

Pakistan is an agricultural country and 70% of its population is directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture. The sector is facing problems like no effective measures have been taken to curb water wastage, power outages, old methods of cultivation and harvesting and no emphasis on the importance of solving the problems of farmers etc. As most of the farmers are illiterate, poor and unaware, they need proper trainings. They are installing more and more tube wells on self-help efforts to irrigate their crops. Since lack of guidance and advance techniques of farming is the main reason of farmer’s backwardness. In order to meet the needs of the growing population, modern agricultural technologies must be used to increase crop yields.

When stars explode, it´s a messy business

February 20 - 2014

WASHINGTON: When stars explode, it´s a messy business. But the massive blasts are also useful, seeding the universe with such key elements as calcium, iron and titanium.

And with the help of a new high-energy X-ray telescope, NASA said Wednesday astronomers are closer than ever to seeing just what´s going on. "This is helping us untangle the mystery surrounding how stars explode," said Fiona Harrison, principal investigator on NuSTAR, or the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array. Combined with images from another NASA X-ray observatory, Chandra, NuSTAR has created the "first ever map of radioactive material in the remnants of a star that exploded," she told reporters. One of the biggest surprises was that stars, which are spherical objects, do not explode in a circular manner, she said. Rather, it appears that the blast is more lumpy and distorted from the very beginning. "Prior to the explosion, the core of the star literally sloshed about," said Harrison, a scientist at the California Institute of Technology. Astronomers based their findings on the observations of Cassiopeia A, or Cas A for short, a remnant of a supernova 11,000 light years away. The star exploded around 350 years ago, blowing off outer layers with an extreme heat that created even more elements. Cas A has been expanding since the year 1670, propelling debris at a speed of 10 million miles an hour, but never before have scientists been able to glimpse the radioactivity that was produced inside the explosion. "With NuSTAR, we have a new forensic tool to investigate the ashes left behind when this star exploded," said Brian Grefenstette, an astronomer at Caltech. NuSTAR launched in 2012 on a two-year mission, joining the NASA fleet that also includes the Hubble Space Telescope. It is the first orbiting telescope to focus on the high-energy X-rays of the electromagnetic spectrum. Although the Chandra Observatory remains the world´s most powerful X-ray telescope, NuSTAR can monitor a range the older orbiting telescope can´t see. Robert Kirshner, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, described the radioactivity map NuSTAR produced as "pioneering science." "You should care about this," said Kirshner, who was not involved in the project."Stars perform a kind of alchemy where they turn one element into another," he said. "The Earth itself is something that is the residue of this astronomical process," said Kirschner. Star explosions played a key role in the iron used to make cars, the calcium in our bones and the titanium used to manufacture hip replacements, he explained. "So we are all star dust and NuSTAR is showing us where we came from, including our replacement parts.

Security forces undertook FATA strikes in ‘self-defence’: Nisar

February 20 - 2014

Pakistan News : ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Thursday said Pakistan’s security forces are undertaking strikes in FATA in ‘self-defense’, which is a right the government cannot take from the armed forces.

Addressing a press conference he said no operation has been undertaken in FATA since September last year and the current strikes are being undertaken by the security forces in self defence. Over peace talks with the Taliban, Chaudhry Nisar said that the government initiated dialogue process with sincerity and asked the political parties opposing the move as to why they had failed to launch military operation against the militants during their term in the government. Appreciating the role of the committees formed by the government and the Taliban for holding negotiation, he said both played a positive part. Clarifying media reports about information ministry’s alert that declared the federal capital an “extremely dangerous” city, Chaurdhry Nisar said the threat level to Islamabad has slipped down as compared to previous years. However, he added: “Safe City Project would be launched in coming weeks in a bid to protect the Islamabad city.” The security forces would be equipped with modern weapons which are being imported from China, he said. The Interior Minister further said that targeted operation is in progress in Karachi and Quetta against the militants. The government of Pakistan is making all out effort to protect the whole country, he added.
